Dr. Carl Alasko, Ph.D, brings 25 years' experience as a practicing psychotherapist to his books, columns, and ongoing work with clients.
While earning his Ph.D. in clinical psychology, Alasko studied in a year-long program at the Istituto di Terapia Familiare in Rome, Italy under the direction of Maurizio Andolfi, author of six widely-respect books on therapeutic technique and co-founder of the European Family Therapy Association.
Following graduation and establishment of his practice, Dr. Alasko trained extensively with Pia Mellody, author of Facing Codependence. For many years thereafter he used Mellody’s model in conducting two-day, small-group intensives focusing on recovery from childhood abuse.
Concurrently Alasko served for ten years on the Board of Directors of Beacon House, a Monterey Bay addiction recovery center. He instituted a free weekly lecture series on the subjects of codependency, parenting and healthy relationships. Alasko subsequently expanded the series to include other professionals speaking to the public on their specialties.
Alasko’s weekly newspaper advice column, "On Relationships," has proven valuable enough to readers that it has now run in the Monterey County Herald for fourteen years. It addresses all common relationship issues, from dating issues to family changes when having a baby to coping with an aging parent.
Dr. Alasko maintains a private practice specializing in couples and families, in the Monterey area, where he lives with his wife and son.
